Dive Into Sophistication With The Tudor Pelagos 39

Tudor’s emblematic underwater tool watch gets endowed with fresh versatility.

When an all-day diving expedition sounds just as inviting as a night out at the bar – and you don’t want to make compromises for either – a trusty and adaptable wrist companion becomes vital to meet both sporting and sartorial needs. Armed with dive-ready features, while emanating a cool, athletic allure, the new Tudor Pelagos 39 is just the versatile accompaniment to take you from the deep sea to the dinner party without breaking a sweat.

The Pelagos 39 hails from an illustrious line of highly technical Tudor dive watches. Tudor has been producing dive watches since 1954, starting with the Reference 7922, an epochal timepiece that was waterproof to 100m, which paved the way for generations of robust underwater tool watches to come.

Introduced in 2012, the Pelagos collection is a sublime culmination of Tudor’s work in dive watches. Created to meet the demands of underwater professionals, the watch ticks all the boxes required of a robust and reliable dive instrument, from waterproofness and legibility, to toughness and timekeeping precision. The new Pelagos 39 is the latest model in the line-up, a formidable range that comprises the Pelagos and Pelagos LHD models, for right-handed and left-handed users respectively, and the Pelagos FXD, developed in collaboration with the French Navy’s combat swimmers.

Like its predecessors, the Pelagos 39’s utilitarian features are instantly recognisable. The watch’s stark, high-contrast dial commands your attention with its no-frills legibility. Set against a black sunray satin-finish backdrop, the watch’s signature ‘Snowflake’ hands and applied monobloc luminescent ceramic composite hour markers guarantee excellent readability in any condition.

Primed for underwater performance, the Pelagos 39 is waterproof to 200m. The watch also comes with a unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel with countdown markers, so that you can set remaining dive times for a safe ascent to the surface. Indeed, the Pelagos 39 is as legitimate as underwater tool watches come – meeting all ISO standards for dive watches covering areas of waterproofness, legibility, and performance to earn its rightful spot for your dive expedition.

A signature feature of the Pelagos collection is its tough and lightweight grade 2 titanium case. The Pelagos 39 is similarly clad in the sturdy alloy. But as its name suggests, the new model is sized at 39mm, compared to 42mm cases of earlier Pelagos models. The new dimension endows the Pelagos 39 much versatility, easily adapting to both men’s and women’s wrists even as it accentuates the collection’s trademark sportiness and presence.

The performance-driven ethos of the Pelagos 39 extends to its engine. Powering the watch is Tudor’s Manufacture Calibre MT5400, which lives up the Pelagos 39’s outward robustness. An Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) certified movement, the Calibre MT5400 is accurate to -/+ 2 seconds a day, boasting precision that is even higher than the COSC standard of -4/+6 seconds daily deviation. Equipped with a silicon balance spring for anti-magnetism and longevity, the movement offers up to 70 hours of power reserve on a full wind.

Despite the Pelagos 39’s hard-wearing disposition, the watch is judiciously lavished with touches that imbue the watch with nuanced sophistication. The matt appearance of its satin-finished 39mm case is a perfect foil for the shiny ceramic bezel insert. On the dial, the luminescent monobloc hour markers enhance legibility while lending depth to the layout. Elsewhere, contrast decorations like a bead-blasted flange framing the sunray satin finish dial, and a hint of cherry red by way of the ‘Pelagos’ name at 6 o’clock, subtly elevate the tool watch with decorative refinement.

Depending on the occasion, you may choose to pair the Pelagos 39 with its three-link, satin-brushed titanium bracelet for a dressier option, or swap it for a black rubber strap for that all-action look. Both the bracelet and strap are fitted with Tudor’s proprietary ‘T-fit’ clasp, which allows for minor adjustments of up to 8mm. This is so that you are assured of a snug fit, unparalleled performance, and unmatched stylishness whether you are in a scuba diving suit or an office power suit.
